Historical research is carried out on the German Empire (1871 - 1918), the First World War (1914 - 1918), the Weimar Republic (1918 - 1933) and the Second World War (1939 - 1945).
The historical reappraisal of the Nazi era (1933-1945), research on the Allied occupation zones or the beginnings of the Federal Republic of Germany (from 1949) as well as regional historical research on Baden-Württemberg also play a role.

Archive research is carried out in the Federal Archives, state archives, municipal archives, primarily in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Bavaria, parts of Switzerland and Austria. At the client's request and, if necessary, also throughout Germany.
In cooperation with research colleagues, an investigatiom can also be carried out at archival institutions abroad (e.g. United Kingdom, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia).
